Large military campaign bi-fold slope with secret drawers
A rather wonderful military bi-fold writing slope from the early 19th century. Rosewood, with brass decorative and line inlay. The lid opens to reveal a centre pull out tooled leather stationary compartment flanked by seven individual pockets for each day of the week. The slope opens further to reveal a beautifully tooled slope, the bottom half lifting to a ribbon lattice compartment for letters and visiting cards, the top board opening to a second compartment from which the three secret drawers may be accessed. There is a full length drawer that is secured (locked) by a pin that pulls out from the side using the recessed military style handle.
